The Annual All Triumph Race in Australia has a rich and varied history since its inception at Warwick Farm in the 1970's.

It has been held at 3 different circuits, Warwick Farm, Amaroo Park and now Wakefield Park, Goulburn. Of these, only Wakefield Park survives. Most types of Triumphs have competed from TR's and Dolomites to Mk.1 saloons and even a Herald.

Rod Chivas has been provided with some copies of early race results, but would appreciate receiving a copy of Official Results from any events held prior to 1976. Known results are:

The second known event was held the following year, with George Mangan driving Peter Irwin's TR5 into 3rd place behind long term competitor Geoff Byrne in his immaculate GT6.

In 1976, the event moved to Amaroo Park, where A.A.R.C. Race Secretary, the late Mary Packard, was always accommodating as we drummed up last minute entries to ensure we had sufficient numbers for a race. Bob Kennedy scored successive wins in his TR5, which was also a regular competitor in the Australian Sports Car Championship.

1978 saw a record 18 entries and the first appearance of Dolomite Sprints, which were very successful at the time in the "Street Sedan" category for near-standard touring cars. But it was Graeme Rutledge who broke through for the first of many wins. We also saw the first interstate entrant with Chris Swingler bring up his Spitfire from Melbourne.

1979 was the first year we faced a serious interstate challenge with Chris now the owner of the black "Playboy" TR7 formerly raced by Group 44's Bob Tullius in the U.S. But it was brother Neal in his GT6 who took the win by just 0.4 sec. Unluckiest driver was pole-sitter, Rick Pierce who stalled the ex-Geoff Byrne GT6 at the start.

1980 saw a number of TR7's from the ProCar series compete. Whilst they didn't have the outright pace, they certainly boosted the numbers. Roger Gates finished a creditable 5th in a race which had a high attrition rate. Rick made up for the previous year with a comfortable win and sold the car soon after.

Another strong entry of 18 cars for 1981 included two lady drivers, Carol Barker-Alldis (TR7) and Verona Larkin who was well known for pedalling her Spitfire and later a very quick MG Midget.

1982 saw Philip Larmour debut his "improved" Dolomite - the ex-Ron Hodgson car which had been driven by Bob Morris with great success - but a Dolomite was not to win the race for another 23 years! Another close finish saw Graeme take the win by 0.5 seconds from third-time runner-up, Warwick Dawson.

The 1983 race attracted sponsorship from long-time Triumph distributor, Reg Smith Motors. It had one of the most controversial finishes with Mike Patten's Spitfire leading for most of the race until contact with Ian Black on the last corner saw Mike spin to the infield. His only consolation was the fastest lap of 59.9 as the stewards let the results stand.

Sufficient numbers could not be mustered for a race in 1984, but a race was scheduled for 1985 with Reg Smith Motors again providing prizemoney. Despite 3 GT6's making the trip from Adelaide, only 7 Triumphs survived the preliminary races. The organizers combined the Triumphs in a 7 lap race with other Marque Sports cars. This was one of Mike Patten's first races in his TR8 and he finished a creditable 4th. Although this race could not be included as an Annual All Triumph Race, the best Triumph finishers were:

After a break of 19 years the All Triumph Race was revived in 2004, mainly thanks to the efforts of Tony Dains and Ecurie Triumph Captain, Graeme Rutledge. A field of 10 cars faced the starter with the ex-Mike Patten TR8 looking as pristine as it had 19 years earlier. This car is now owned by Gary Angel, who asked Phil Poat to drive it in 2004. Dolomites now matched the sports cars 1:1, but familiar names like Graeme Rutledge and Geoff Byrne were still competing.

In 2005 the Dolomite Sprints outnumbered the sports cars, although the pole position jinx struck Jeff Wards (TR7V8) who was judged to have crept at the start and given a drive-through penalty. Nevertheless, 2005 saw one of the most exciting duels between the Dolomites of Mark Larmour and Mark Morsillo with the latter gaining the upper hand on the second last corner.

2006 saw a strong challenge from South Australia, with the GT6's of Trevor Lindsay and Roger Lange being the two fastest qualifiers. Unfortunately, Roger broke his diff in the preliminary race, but a strong field of 16 cars faced the starter for the 2006 race. Trevor dominated the race, setting the fastest All Triumph race lap at Wakefield of 1:07.8239. Graeme Rutledge stormed through from the back of the grid to finish second in his TR8. Brothers Mark and Greg Morsillo finished 4th and 5th separated by less than a tenth of a second.

Sportscar Spares sponsored the 2007 race and a record field of 19 cars started with all cars finishing. The 2004 winning TR8, this time driven by owner, Gary Angel took the flag, with Mark Morsillo and Philip Larmour (Dolomite Sprints) also sharing in the prizemoney. A perpetual trophy provided by Sportscar Spares was presented for the first time, and Queenslander Adrian Diehm (2.5PI) was the first competitor to make the trip south. Another interesting car making its first appearance was Rod Carey (S.A.) in the famous ex-AMI Racing Team lightweight Spitfire. Pit Stop Bookshop in Perth also provided their support with five gift vouchers.

The 2008 event saw 16 entries with four "new faces" in Dave Bruton (TR7PRO), John Buddee (TR7), Glen Coutinho (TR7V8) and Ian Watt from Victoria in his Group Nc 2.5PI Mk. 2. 2006 winner Trevor Lindsay stamped his mark on the day with a convincing pole time in his GT6, but second-fastest Jeff Wards (TR7V8) and Mark Morsillo (Dolomite Sprint Turbo) were separated by less than one-hundredth of second, a margin that was to continue through the day's races. Sportscar Spares again provided prizemoney to the class winners and PitStop Bookshop provided 6 gift vouchers.

Mobil Lagoon Service Centre was welcomed on board as the 2009 race sponsor. 20 entries were received, although Malcolm Lowe was a late withdrawal after damaging his TR7 motor at Oran Park the week before. Newcomers included Bill Birney (Vic.) in a TR8; Brian Falloon (Qld.) in a TR5 and Tony Hudson (GT6 Mk.3). Two spins during the first of 8 laps (Bill Birney and Jon Newell, TR7) livened up proceedings, although at race end the first 4 placegetters were actually identical to the previous year. As well as prizemoney from Mobil Lagoon, The Old Goulburn Brewery also donated two bottles of their finest beer to placegetters.

It should be noted that other All Triumph Races were held in conjunction with TSOA National Meetings in 1981, 1982 and 1985. Race permits were obtained from CAMS and these events were typically run in 2 heats during one of the competition days. Qualifying times were taken from the morning lap dash runs. Graeme Rutledge also found success at these events, taking a particularly fortunate win in Race 2 at Adelaide International Raceway when his GT6 broke a crankshaft on the last lap and "Gentleman Bob" Anderson coasted to the line behind Graeme to give his interstate visitor the win.

Results from these events were:
  • 1981 A.I.R., South Australia, Race 1 G. Rutledge, GT6. Race 2 G. Rutledge, GT6
  • 1982 Calder Park, Vic. Race 1 G. Rutledge, GT6. Race 2 (rain) R. Chivas, Spitfire
  • 1985 Oran Park, N.S.W. M. Patten, TR8
